Kindergarten and Early Childhood Support

$200,000 of mill levy funds is dedicated each year to early childhood education and full-day kindergarten scholarships.

Kindergarten Scholarships:

Mill levy dollars support roughly 40 scholarships for students to attend full-day kindergarten. Full-day kindergarten programs cost $2,100 per year. There is no cost for the half-day kindergarten program.

Studies show that students enrolled in quality full-day kindergarten programs benefit academically and socially. The full-day schedule often allows for more student time in learning centers and teacher-directed individual work. In addition, the full-day schedule allows time for advanced students to  complete challenging long-term projects or it allows time for students who need more interaction or help from their teacher. Full-day kindergarten also results in fewer transitions for young students during the day.

Early Childhood Education:

The PSD ECE program is funded by both the 2000 and 2010 mill levies. Allocations from the mill levies support instructional support including additional paraprofessionals, supplies, building needs and more.

The PSD ECE program offers quality, comprehensive opportunities for education for children from birth through five years old and prenatal mothers. Through federal, state and district funds, the program offers no-cost and tuition-based program options to eligible children. Tuition-based preschool programs range in cost from $2,900 to $3,150 for the year, depending on the program.
