The PSD Mentoring Program is funded by both the 2000 and the 2010 mill levies. Allocations from the mill levies support the following:
• Stipend payments to mentors and guides for their support of a protégé
• Release time for mentors and guides to observe the instructional practice of their protégé
• Instructional resource materials for mentors/guides and protégés on an as needed basis
• Induction materials for novice teachers, special service providers and principals with an initial license
• The Golden Ticket program that allows a mentor/guide and protégé to have a half day of collaboration time to work together to improve knowledge and skills that will positively impact the four learning goals of PSD
• Materials for professional development courses: Teacher Leadership Academy, Leaders as Teachers, and Successfully Managing Your Career
• Teach Like a Champion books for all new teachers and special service providers
• Professional development for the Mentor Coordinator as needed
• The salary of the Mentor Coordinator, who is a teacher on special assignment
• Half the salary of a classified support person for the mentoring program
In PSD, new teachers attend classes designed to help them be successful. Additionally, mentors in their schools provide on-going support. More information about the support new teachers receive can be found on the PSD mentoring web page.
