Poudre School District students will learn about sustainability topics and concepts during Future Friday events on Sept. 14.
How food is produced and consumed impacts the health of human beings, the economic health of the local and global communities, cultural practices, as well as the health of the planet. This year's Future Friday, presented by PSD in collaboration with Be Local Northern Colorado, will focus on the theme "Food Matters" and will offer activities for students in all grade levels. Be Local will facilitate the pairing of local farmers, chefs and sustainability experts with local schools, as well as provide field trip opportunities for several schools to visit regional farms.
Other gardening and food source information and activities will be presented throughout the week. The PSD Child Nutrition Department will feature several seasonal local and organic produce items on salad and fresh bars in all cafeterias and will offer ‘scratch cooked’ entrees featuring local produce throughout the week and on Future Friday as well.
Now in its fourth year, Future Friday is held the day before the annual Sustainable Living Fair and is promoted with the hope that students and their families will attend the fair. For more information, contact Jody Margheim, PSD Partnership and Volunteer Coordinator, at 490-3207.
