State Approved Content Exams
The Educator Licensing Act passed in 1991 changed the professional standards for Colorado educational personnel. The law called for the implementation of an assessment program as part of the licensing process. A passing score on the PLACE exam has since been a requirement for obtaining a Provisional Teaching License in Colorado. Recently the Colorado Department of Education has announced they will accept the PRAXIS II exam in six content areas along side the PLACE exam. The following is information on both the PLACE and PRAXIS II exams.

PRAXIS II EXAM
The PRAXIS II exam is a common assessment exam given in many other states. The six content areas that have been approved for the PRAXIS II by the state are elementary education, early childhood education (included in the elementary exam), English, mathematics, general science, and social studies.
The PRAXIS II Subject Assessment exam will be offered six times a year. The tests that will be accepted in Colorado are:
#10014 Elementary Education: Content Knowledge (Session 1, 2 hour exam) This same exam
will also be taken by teachers endorsed in Early Childhood Education. This exam
includes a segment that tests literacy which is part of the Early Childhood program.
#10041 English Language, Literature, and Composition: Content Knowledge (Session 1, 2 hour exam)
#10061 Mathematics: Content Knowledge (Session 1, 2 hour exam)
#10435 General Science: Content Knowledge (Session 1, 2 hour exam)
#10081 Social Studies: Content Knowledge (Session 1, 2 hour exam)
Cut scores for the PRAXIS II test have been determined by CDE as of July 10, 2003. Passing scores are as follows:

Please note: when registering for the PRAXIS II exam be sure to enter 7040 under item #13. This is the code for Colorado and it will ensure that your scores are sent to the Colorado Department of Education.
