PSD seeking nominations to name new Wellington school

Poudre School District (PSD) is seeking nominations to name the new Wellington elementary school, which is under construction and tentatively scheduled to open fall 2007. 

PSD is building two new elementary schools to address overcrowding—one in the Wellington area and one in southeast Fort Collins.  The new Wellington elementary school, which will have a capacity of 525 students, will be located west of I-25 in The Knolls housing development north of Box Elder Creek, inside the Town of Wellington limits.

The southeast area school, tentatively planned to open fall 2008, will be built in the Timnath Ranch subdivision east of I-25 and south of Harmony Road.  A timeline for naming the new southeast area school has not been determined.

PSD will follow current Board of Education policy and regulations for the naming process. 

Nominations will be accepted through Monday, September 25, 2006.  The nomination form (print here 110 KB ) can be picked up at the following locations:

• Or, call 482-7420 and request that a form to be mailed to you. 

According to Board of Education policy, new PSD elementary schools are named for local persons who have contributed to public education through elementary, junior high, senior high schools, central office or board of education service, unless there is a compelling reason in favor of another name. 

A committee of community members, parents and students will review nominations in October, and make three recommendations to the Board of Education for their consideration and final selection in November.
