DREAM Activities Prepare Olander Students for Learning

Olander Elementary School of Project Based Learning begin Wellness Wednesdays With DRop Everything And Move (DREAM) to get everyone moving and ready to learn after 10 minutes of physical activity in classrooms at the beginning of the day.

“The purpose of DREAM is to prepare students’ minds to learn,” explained Ken Arledge, Olander physical education teacher. “When students engage in physical activity, blood flow is supplied to major muscle groups as well as the brain and studies have shown that physical activity is essential to the learning process.”

Third-grade teacher Kris Odenbaugh has her students work on literacy and reading right after DREAM time.

“The 3rd-graders are alert and ready for literacy after DREAM time,” Odenbaugh said.
