School Activities for Nov. 16-23: Werner Earth Fair; FRHS International Days

Werner Elementary Fourth Grade Teach Peers at Earth Fair
Fourth grade students at Werner Elementary School will teach other students about rocks, minerals, fossils and gems when they host an Earth Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday to Friday, Nov. 16 to 19, and also after school from 3:20 to 4:40 p.m., Tuesday Nov. 16 to Thursday, Nov. 18, at Werner, 5400 Mail Creek Lane.

The students, who have been learning about geology during science class, will expand their knowledge of geology when Melody Ulen, geologist, gives a lecture and demonstration about rocks and minerals to 4th-grade students from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 15.

During the fair, 4th graders will tell other students what they have learned as they sell minerals, fossils, gems, jewelry and other items. Fourth graders will also learn about business by managing stock, calculating sales and determining profits and losses after the sale.

“The Earth Fair is integrated learning at its best,” said Cindy Ufer, Werner teacher. “Students develop their math, science, language, interpersonal skills, at the same time they learn what is involved in running a business.
