Kindergarten is an important step for both you as a parent and for your child. No one knows the learning style of your child better than you do. For that reason, parents should visit their child’s neighborhood school in January or February.
Kindergarten registration for students entering school in Fall 2012 is scheduled for Thursday, Feb 9, 2012. Registration will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at all neighborhood elementary schools (unless otherwise noted; see attached schedule). Children who will be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 15, 2012, are eligible to register.
On the day of registration, parents should bring their child’s birth certificate (original or certified preferred), emergency contact information, immunization records and proof of residency.
School Choice Option
PSD’s School Choice program allows families to select the school that best meets their child’s educational needs, based on space availability. More than 70% of PSD families choose to send their children to a neighborhood school, the school located in the attendance area in which they live. Parents may choose from a neighborhood school, a school close to work, all-day or half-day programs, before- and after-school care, and various programs and curricula.
Neighborhood schools teach PSD’s rigorous standards-driven curriculum, along with gifted, enrichment, and accelerated options. Options schools (100% choice) offer a different curriculum, focus area, or method of instructional delivery than neighborhood schools.
If you are unsure which schools serve your neighborhood, please call 490-3576 or go to www.psdschools.org and look under School Resources -> School Locator -> Find My Neighborhood School.
