Board of Education Sets Process and Timeline for Interim Superintendent Selection

The Poudre School District Board of Education outlined the process and timeline for selecting an Interim Superintendent to replace Dr. Jerry Wilson, who is leaving to become Superintendent in Maryland.

At its meeting on May 29, the board heard from community members and discussed the characteristics sought in an Interim Superintendent. The board also noted that it prefers that the Interim Superintendent not apply for the long-term Superintendent position. The Interim Superintendent will serve from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.

As part of the selection process, which will be facilitated by the Colorado Association of School Boards, the Board agreed to create a community committee to interview and provide input regarding the final candidates. The committee will be comprised of the following stakeholder groups:

  • PEA - 2 representatives
  • PASE - 2 representatives
  • ACE - 2 representatives
  • Business community - 1 representative
  • Students - 2 representatives
  • CSU - 1 representative
  • FRCC - 1 representative
  • DAB - 4 representatives (one from each HS feeder system)
  • Local Government - 1 representative
  • Special student populations - 2 representatives

The Board will be sending letters to each identified stakeholder group asking for the names of representatives to serve on the interview committees. Names are due to the board by Thursday, June 7 at 4:00 p.m.

The selection process and timeline outlined Tuesday are as follows:

  • May 31 - CASB posts open position for Interim Superintendent
  • June 11 - Position closes at end of business/CASB collects all applications
  • June 13 (5:30 p.m.) - Board meets in public to review applications and name finalists. CASB representative will train board in interview techniques.
  • June 14 (7:00 p.m.) - CASB conducts training for members of community interview teams
  • June 19 (5:30 p.m.) - Board and community committees conduct public interviews of finalists in 1.5 hour increments. Community committees submit input to Board.
  • June 27 - earliest Board can meet to deliberate and select an Interim Superintendent. Final selection date has not been determined.

The Board of Education will run a separate process and timeline for selection of PSD's long-term Superintendent.
