Moore PATHWAYS for Gifted/TalentedMoore Pathways for GT
SENG (Social Emotional Needs of Gifted) groups are parent support groups facilitated by trained Moore teachers and PSD employees. Our Moore GT Coordinator, 2nd grade teacher Vicki Palmer is currently trained. These support groups help parents by giving them a network to share ideas and to learn how to better meet the needs of their gifted children both academically and socially and emotionally.
Moore Core Knowledge will be one of four schools piloting an identification process for students who are gifted in creativity. This spring, second grade teachers will be trained in understanding the characteristics of creative people and teaching lessons that cultivate creativity. Teachers will complete the observational behavior scales GATES (Gifted and Talented Evaluation Scales) for all students in second grade. Students with high scores on the GATES will go on to take the Torrance Test of Creativity in the third grade before a formal identification is made. Strategies used by 2nd grade teachers will be integrated into all grade levels. The teachers are excited to have more skills to facilitate the higher level thinking and creativity of ALL our students.
Gifted and Talented Discussion Groups give gifted students an opportunity to connect with other advanced learners and share ideas and concerns with a certified teacher. These groups can help students with advocating for their own learning and will provide an opportunity to learn the importance of study and organization skills. Students will also be able to participate in fun activities that help with the social and emotional needs of gifted children.
