9th Hour Intervention PeriodBlevins Middle School
Ninth Hour Intervention Period
The purpose of this communication is to further explain Blevins’ 9th period block (everyday Mon-Fri for 40 minutes) and its purpose in supporting student's individual academic needs. Interventions will take place Monday through Thursday with Friday being dedicated to classroom school business, school culture, and clubs and organizations. Due to new legislation at both the federal and state level, every school is required to implement an intervention program called “Response to Intervention” or RtI. The philosophy behind RtI is for schools to provide additional time and instruction to students, during the school day, to meet their individual academic needs either through remediation or enrichment opportunities. This year, Blevins has designed its schedule to respond to individual student need(s) during our 9th Period Block.
Blevins is building a schedule that creates a series of 4-week classes to provide students with targeted interventions in reading, writing and math, as well as enrichment opportunities. A student who requires literacy (reading and writing) or math interventions will be automatically placed based on individual student data (CSAP, MAPS testing, Grades, etc.) Students who are performing at a proficient or advanced level will have additional opportunities for enrichment during this time period. Our hope is that students requiring math and literacy interventions will work hard during this time and be able to engage in enrichment opportunities during the school-year.
