Environmental Gold LeaderPSD Named as Gold Leader by the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program
Poudre School District (PSD) was recently named a Gold Leader by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, in cooperation with the Pollution Prevention Advisory Board and the Colorado Environmental Partnership, at the 10th annual Environmental Leadership Awards.
Of 26 companies recognized as a new Gold Leader, PSD was one of two educational institutions honored.
During the event, Governor Bill Ritter acknowledged more than 80 companies for their outstanding environmental achievements. The awards recognize Colorado organizations with gold, silver and bronze designations for voluntarily going beyond compliance with state and federal regulations and for their commitment to continual environmental improvement.
The Colorado Environmental Leadership Program is a statewide environmental recognition and reward program administered by the Department of Public Health and Environment's Office of Environmental Integration and Sustainability.
As part of the PSD Sustainability Management System (SMS), PSD departments meet annually to set sustainability goals, discuss the progress made toward prior years goals, and to learn about ways to incorporate changes to extend resources. Each year, PSD publishes the Annual Sustainability Report that highlights the district’s commitment to sustainability, resource conservation, green house gas emissions, sustainable education, transportation and other cost and resource saving operation activities.
In 2008, the district received 23 Energy Star awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy, showcasing its continued leadership in energy efficiency. Of the 23 accolades, 21 were awarded to schools and two to office buildings.
