History Olander Elementary opened in 1990 and was named for Emil and Eleanor Olander, two retired Fort Collins teachers.
Learning culture Olander’s culture is founded on a love of learning and caring for children. Mutual respect, personal responsibility, safety, and “doing your best” are cornerstones of our school. Clear expectations and “love and logic” discipline create a positive, safe learning atmosphere.
Academic environment Olander’s focus is establishing a foundation of literacy, math, civic responsibility, and the new 21st Century skills all students need to be successful as global citizens. Project Based Learning (PBL), a powerful teaching method used at all grade levels, engages students in learning knowledge and skills through an extended inquiry process structured around complex, authentic questions and carefully designed products and tasks.
Instructional & enrichment programs Olander students create innovative technology projects every year. Examples include movies about the American Revolution and videos using clay animation.

The state-recognized Olander literacy lab boosts basic literacy skills for students through innovative and research-based teaching methods.
