History
Poudre High School (PHS) opened in 1964 and underwent major renovation and remodeling in 1994–95.

Learning culture
PHS offers more than 152 courses designed to meet a broad spectrum of choices and needs. The classroom environment and curriculum are enhanced by means of relevancy through the Pathway concept. Students are encouraged to explore classes at Colorado State University and Front Range Community College for credit while enrolled in high school. PHS is one of three North Central Accreditation Transition Endorsed schools in Colorado and received “Exemplary” ratings at the National NCA Conference.

Instructional & enrichment programs
Beginning in the 9th grade and continuing the sophomore year in Critical Skills, students develop a 5-year plan with the fifth year being the year beyond high school.

The International Baccalaureate Program (IB) is a four-year accelerated, honors curriculum. Graduates earn an internationally recognized diploma and the equivalent proficiency of one year of college preparation.

The Advanced Placement (AP) program provides the means for colleges to grant credit and/or placement to students who test successfully on examinations. AP credit is granted and accepted by more than 2,800 colleges and universities.

Poudre Pathways After Hours is an alternative program for students who need additional academic options.

A GED (General Education Diploma) program is available for students seeking a GED diploma.

Independent Study is offered as an enhancement to the curriculum.

Sophomore Academy is an intense course for selected sophomores designed to increase academic performance and assist in the transition from junior high to high school.

Newcomer Academy provides extensive support to our English Language Learners (ELL).

Middle Years Program provides an academic challenge and life skills for students aged 11–16 years in preparation for the IB Diploma Program.

Capstone Experience is available to any student who wishes to create and complete a community-based, career-oriented project.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is designed to help students succeed in a rigorous curriculum taking responsibility for their own education and future plans.
