1020 Art 1 (5 credits) - Grades 8 & 9
This course helps students build a foundation for subsequent art electives by focusing on projects that reinforce and teach the basic elements of art and principles of design. A wide variety of art activities are designed to increase the student's skill with different art media and techniques and to teach terminology and appreciation of aesthetics and art styles. Creative and critical thinking skills are emphasized as students do drawings, paintings, plaster sculptures and linoleum block prints. Supplies and/or a materials charge will be required. Fee for materials purchased for special projects: $3.50

1030 Art 2 (5 credits) - Grades 8 & 9
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art 1 (#1020). This course builds upon the knowledge and skills gained in Art 1 while allowing students to further develop their creative ideas and interests through more involved, sophisticated projects. It is less structured than Art 1, allowing students more freedom of expression while introducing new media and advanced techniques. Art history, appreciation and analysis are integrated throughout the curriculum. Supplies and/or a materials charge will be required. Fee for materials purchased for special projects: $2.00. Supplies are same as for Art 1
1040 Art 3 (5 credits) - Grade 9
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art 2 (#1030). This course is designed primarily as a program for students who wish to further their creative development in the fine arts. It is set up as "directed independent study" and students may concentrate in areas of special interest to them on major projects. They have the option of working with different media and trying many advanced techniques. These include: acrylic, airbrush and watercolor painting; acetate, embossing and silkscreen printing; casting techniques in sculpture, wire and soft sculpture; batik and fiber arts. Supplies and/or a materials charge will be required.
1070 Photography 1 (5 credits) - Grades 7, 8 & 9
This exciting course includes instruction in basic and fundamental 35-mm camera use. Each student participates in darkroom techniques such as black and white film developing, picture printing, and picture enlarging. The history of photography is introduced, the science of photographic chemicals is studied, and visual perception is stressed by looking with discrimination through the lens of a camera. Supplies and/or a materials charge will be required. Fee for materials purchased for special projects: $12.00

1080 Photography 2 (5 credits) - Grade 8 & 9
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Photography 1 (course #1070). During this course students will have opportunities to explore and experiment more deeply the skills learned in Photo 1. Students will be challenged to be more creative with their photographs while learning more darkroom techniques. Students will be shooting several roles of film and will have a lot more time in the darkroom processing and enlarging their photographs. This class will also include basic digital photography techniques. Supplies and/or a special materials charge will be required. Fee for materials purchased for special projects: $20.00

1270 Jewelry (5 credits) – Grades 8 & 9
The students will observe and interpret metals and nonmetals through experimentation. Planning of designs, utilizing the skills of sawing, forging, cold connections, soldering, surface enrichment, and other beginning jewelry techniques may be explored. The history and aesthetics of jewelry will be studied. Wire, metal, (nickel, silver, brass, copper, and sterling silver), wood, fibers, and stones may be used. Design and craftsmanship are emphasized. Student supplies, kit and/or fees required. Fee for materials purchased for special projects: $10.00
1050 Crafts 1 (5 credits) - Grades 8 & 9
This course offers the student opportunities to design and create hands-on activities including fibers, clay, tile, paper mache’ and many more beautiful and useful art forms. The history and culture of crafts is studied. Supplies and/or a materials charge will be required. Fee for materials purchased for special projects: $5.00
