Message from the Principal
August 30, 2007
Welcome Back!
We had a very smooth start to the school year! It felt so good to have the smiling faces of students in our building again. It didn’t take long for everyone to remember and/or learn the routines of the school. New teachers and students are happy and learning a lot! Thanks for all you did to get your student ready for the new school year!
Students at school too early!
Even though the school year is young, a problem is already beginning. Students are at school too early in the morning! Please remember that there is no adult supervision until 8:45 am so students should not be on the playground before 8:45 am each morning!
Students at school too late!
While I realize that during the first week of school schedules are being worked out, it is important that all students are picked up by 3:50 pm. This past week several students were at school far later. If the problem is persistent, the students left at school after 3:50 pm will go to PACK, our after school program, and the families will be responsible for paying for that care.
Breakfast is being served!
Remember that we serve a continental breakfast each school day starting at 8:30 am in the Flexroom. Breakfast costs $1.00 for full pay and is free if students qualify for Free or Reduced price at lunch.
Traffic flow after school!
Remember when you are waiting to pick up your child after school that you need to line up either next to the curb or as close as you can get to the parked cars on the north side of the front parking lot. It is essential that you leave a lane in the middle for traffic moving through the parking lot! In order to provide for every child’s safety, students will cross at the crosswalk ONLY. Please don’t beckon for your child to cross the traffic lane in a place other than the crosswalk. Amazingly, we get everyone in cars and headed home in 5 – 7 minutes!
Enrollment Update
This August we registered 30 students new to CLPE. Of course, some students here last year moved to other places. However, we registered more students than those who left. While that is the good news, there is also bad news. The Kindergarten enrollment for this year is way down. In fact, because we had fewer Kindergarteners, we are currently running the all day program and just 1 half-day program. The other grade that is impacted this year is 5th grade. We were only able to staff 5th grade with two teachers. Each classroom now has 30 students. I have hired Wendy Anderson to work as a part time paraprofessional for 5th grade and have asked Sharon VonGunten to teach 5th grade in the afternoon.
