School Accountability Report
December 13, 2007
Dear CLPE Families,
This time of year we think of holiday celebrations with friends and family. However, in public schools in Colorado, this is the time when the Department of Education releases student achievement information to the community in the form of the School Accountability Report (SAR). The SAR for CLPE is attached to this letter.
The SAR contains information about CLPE. The student achievement data in the report is all from the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) tests that were administered at CLPE in February and March 2007. You will see the results of that test for the subjects of Reading, Writing, Math, and Science.
As you review the data, it is easy to see that CLPE is at or above the average of schools in the state in all three subjects. CLPE especially excels at helping students throughout the school learn to read and write. If you examine the results closely, you will notice that 92% of students in grade 6 received the score of Proficient or Advanced in Reading. 86% of students in grade 6 scored Proficient or Advanced on the Writing test. We made all of the 22 Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) targets set by the “No Child Left Behind” federal education law.
You will also notice that CLPE is a very safe school as measured by the total number of Safety and Discipline referrals. The students at CLPE are respectful and follow school and district rules. CLPE is a school at which “Character Counts Every Day.”
As good as the achievement data is for CLPE, we are always working to get better. This year there are two school wide goals:
q Improve Writing achievement for all students.
q Successfully implement a “Strength-Based” approach to working with students.
This year each grade level wrote a measurable goal to improve student achievement in Reading, Writing, and Math. We are monitoring our progress toward those goals and using what we learn to continuously improve instruction.
None of the success at CLPE would be possible without your support and help. I ask you to continue to be engaged in your child’s education. You can do that by reading with your child, making certain he or she does homework, attending school functions, and asking good questions of your child and the teacher.
If you have any questions about the report or the letter, please contact me at 488-7600 or sschiola@psdschools.org.
Respectfully,
Steve Schiola
