Technology Education is an elective course offered to 8th grade students at Kinard Junior Middle School that helps provide challenging vocational and technical studies, utilizing mathematics, science, language arts, and problem solving skills in the context of modern workplace practices and in preparation of continued learning. The students participate in a one semester exploratory session which includes technology subjects related to career exploration opportunities in high technology areas such as aerospace, agriculture, architecture, aviation, communication, computer animation, computer applications, construction, digital photo, digital video, electronics, lasers, fiber optics, research and design, and problem solving.
Introduction to Technology Week October 19th & October 26th
Students are learning about the bridge terminology, and students will also get a chance to design their own bridge using West Point Bridge Builder Software. Their will be a contest in the classes of most creative bridge, and least expensive bridge.
Next we will be doing tool safety and learning about the tools that they will be using this year during various projects throughout the year.
Exploring Technology Week October 19th & October 26th
Students are working in groups to make a design brief of their invention convention project using the design process. This week students will be building their prototype. Ask your student how it is going, what they are doing for the project, and why.
Next we will be making Hot Air Balloons out of tissue paper and talking about the properties of a Hot Air Balloon.
