About Peak:
Peak was started six years ago and as the brainchild of Dr. Joe Hendrickson and Richard McMahan of Managed Adolescent Care (MAC). At the time Dr. Hendrickson was the assistant superintendent for Poudre Schools and he realized that the district had a need to provide a therapeutic setting for students in special education that focused on academic excellence while providing a strong therapeutic component to help students with emotional disabilities. MAC had an outstanding reputation in the community for providing psychological help to teenagers and the district asked them to join in a joint venture. In year one we had one teacher, one Para, one therapist, and three kids.
Today we have one principal, five teachers, six paras, four therapists, two buildings, and a over 25 students. The program has been an unbelievable success story. Our students are graduating, achieving their goals, transferring to other schools and, most importantly, not dropping out. Peak has become more than just an academic setting. It has become a safe haven, a family, and a place where students with special needs can become anything they believe they can. We are very proud of our students and encourage anyone to visit and see the wonderful things we are doing at Peak school.
