Polaris Expeditionary Learning School serves students in grades 7-12. The classes consist of small, caring learning communities of no more than 24 students per crew (class). The total school population for 2007-2008 is 200 students.
Polaris is an Expeditionary Learning (EL) school. EL is a comprehensive K-12 educational design. This approach combines rigorous academic content and real world projects called learning expeditions, with active teaching and community service. Teaching and learning are active and engaging in Expeditionary Learning classrooms.
The fundamental idea behind Expeditionary Learning is that students learn more by experiencing the world around them. Expeditionary Learning harnesses the students’ natural passion to learn and helps children develop the curiosity, knowledge, skills, and personal qualities they need for successful adulthood.
