Running Club

For the past 13 years Riffenburgh school has had a club that encourages fitness for our third through sixth grade students. Staff members and parents join the students for our sessions. Until recently we called our club a running club. We decided to shift our emphasis from running to general aerobic fitness. We now call it the Fitness Club. We meet twice a week for seven weeks in the Fall and then again in the Spring. One day each week we run, jog, or walk a course that gradually increases from one to two miles. On the other day we participate in interval training that mixes short periods of running with periods of less intensive activity. On these days we do relays, play games, or run a course that mixes running and walking.

Many students choose to participate in one or more community runs that are scheduled near the end of either the spring or fall fitness clubs. We have had students participate in the Turkey Trot, The Jingle Bells Run, The Christmas Classic, The Fire Hydrant Five, and the Poudre Spring Runoff.
