What is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money.” When you purchase scrip from the Shepardson PTO, you will receive a gift card, as you would if you went to the store and purchased one.
How Does it Help Support Shepardson?
Thousands of merchants use a company called Great Lakes Scrip to support non-profit organizations like Shepardson PTO. You pay face value for the scrip, and they give a rebate of 2 percent to 14 percent back to the Shepardson PTO. We can raise thousands of dollars using scrip, but it only works if you participate.
Where and How Does it Work?
A scrip card looks and acts like a regular gift card. You swipe it to make a purchase, and any balance remains on the card.
You can use scrip to purchase everyday items like food, clothing, gas, toys, books, school supplies, electronics and more. With every purchase, you help support your child’s education.You can give scrip as a present because it looks just like the gift card you would purchase at the store. You can use your King Soopers and Safeway scrip to pay for gas at the pump. Kohl’s and JC Penney will let you pay your account in scrip if you pay at the store.
How Do I Get Started?
- Some scrip is available for immediate purchase at the Shepardson office, where you can also obtain extra order forms and a waiver form that we will keep on file.
- Order forms can be picked up at the school or downloaded at the bottom of this page.
- Once you drop your order off at the school office, turnaround time is usually less than two weeks.
- If you’d like your order sent home with your child, please indicate so on your order form and ensure you have a waiver on file in the office, also available to download at the bottom of this page.
- Great Lake Scrips, the company that we use as a broker, represents thousands of merchants and we can order scrip for any of them, so if you’re looking for a merchant not on our form, or if you’re planning a trip, be sure to check the full retailer list at http://www.glscrip.com/retailerlist/index.aspx .
- We also carry some local merchants, like King Soopers and Sunflower Market, that aren’t listed on the Great Lake web site.
- We accept check or credit card as payment.
So, It Doesn't Cost Me a Thing?
There are no membership fees or application fees. Some families may choose to enlist relatives, friends and neighbors to buy scrip. But unlike other fundraising programs, scrip families do not have to "sell" anything to raise money for Shepardson. As with other gift cards, some merchants may charge a small monthly fee if the card is not used within a year. Details are provided in the full retailer list at Great Lake Scrips
