What's the Scoop on Soda?

We hear a lot of talk about getting kids to eat healthy, but what about getting them to drink healthy? Did you know that what a child drinks can drastically affect the amount of calories consumed, as well as the amount of calcium needed to build strong bones? Soda has no nutritional value and is high in sugar.

Many also contain caffeine, which kids do not need. And then there is the effect on teeth……The good news is that the American Beverage Association just announced that 45% fewer full calorie sodas were shipped to US schools in 2006, compared to 2004. Many students are now opting for 100 percent fruit juice, low-fat milk, bottled water, calorie-capped sports drinks, enhanced waters, and low-calorie teas. Starting these good habits early will increase the chances of our kids becoming healthy adults. The next time you are at the store……load up on healthy drink choices!
