Partnership With UNC
Shepardson is one of a few schools that has entered into a partnership with UNC to provide training for college students who are seeking a degree in elementary education or special education. “Student teachers” will be working directly with classroom teachers for about 10 weeks in either their junior or senior year. Our teachers have been trained to provide the reflection needed to assist young professionals in understanding the complexities involved with teaching children who have different needs and learning styles. As a result, Shepardson teachers are better able to provide more small group instruction to address the needs of our diverse learners. As an inclusive school, preservice teachers in special education are eager to learn strategies that allow all students to reach high expectations within a typical classroom setting. We are pleased to be able to assist these students in becoming the next generation of teaching professionals.
