Timnath Football
|
By Josh and Isaac When Timnath Elementary was a high school, it had a football team called the Timnath Cubs. The football team had six games a year and 24 games in their career which took four years. For instance, George Sloan who played for the Timnath Cubs in the 1950's said that his football teams' stat for his career in the 1950's was 18 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie. They had never reached the finals since 1925 and won the conference championship. |

George Sloan's coaches were Lindy Lindicranz, Reid Pope and the assistant coach was Heiko Kuhn. George Sloan played right end for offense and defense. He played from the age of 13 to 17. George Sloan's team, Timnath Cubs, was 2nd in the conference and the team Estes Park Bobcats, was 1st in the conference. |
The rules of football in the 1950's were different than they are now in the 2000's. They had no face masks which they do now. Their footballs were rounder and harder to grip than now. Today football is a much safer sport than before because of better and safer equipment. There were no mouth pieces and now we do have them. Also, they didn't have face guards or names at the back of their uniforms like now. They only wore worn out bend ear flaps which were long and made out of leather. Now the helmets are made out of plastic tissue and metal for the bars. The football field was smaller than the field today. It was 80 yards instead of today, which is 100 yards.
Back in the 1950's there were 30 kids that played football on a team. The uniforms used to be old clothes from high school and nobody came to watch the Timnath Cubs play games. Soon they got new uniforms by selling box lunches. Box lunches were boxes full of food for people to eat. People came to watch the Timnath Cubs. It was packed each game from then on. The colors on the new Timnath Cubs uniforms were blue and gold.
To get to the football games they had to walk to school or take the bus. The only person who did neither of them was the Coach who had a car. These were some differences of Timnath Football History back then to Timnath Football History now.
