Birthday Books

The Werner PTA has developed a new program designed to enhance our library and honor children on their birthday or special occasion. You are invited to purchase a “Birthday Book” to celebrate your child's special day. We want to foster a love of reading for our Werner children and help build our library media collection. Your child will feel proud each time he sees his “Birthday Book” read by a classmate or friend.

How this program works:

1.    Return the form and money to the PTA Birthday Books program as soon as possible. The cost for each book will be a flat fee of $15.00. Your check should be made payable to Werner Elementary PTA.

• If you are unable to complete the form at this time but would still like to honor your child with a birthday book, please return the form with the money at least one month prior to the date you would like your child honored. Forms for November will need to be returned by October 14^th.

2.    The book you select will be purchased in hardback and remain in his/her classroom this year. Over the  summer the book will be processed for library circulation next year.

• If you select a favorite author, series, or subject area then the committee will select an appropriate book for your child. We will contact you with any questions.

3.     A bookplate with your requested message will be placed in the front of the book in honor of your child.

4.    On the birthday day or a day nearest to you child's birthday, the book will be presented to him/her in their classroom.

• Students with summer birthdays (June, July, and August) will have their books presented on their ½ birthday. An example: August 2^nd birthday will have the birthday book presented on February 2^nd.

5.    The honored students will get to check out their book for one (1) month. He/she will receive a special bookmark to keep as a memento.

6.    After the birthday book has been returned, it will be added to the classroom book collection for other students to view and check out using the teachers' current book policy.

7.    The following year, the birthday books will be put in a special directory for other students to view and the books will be available to check out from the Library Media Center.

8.    Birthday books can be given by anyone – parents, grandparents, uncles/aunts, friends, etc.

Participation in this program is optional. If you would like to participate in this program, please return the form and money ($15.00) as soon as possible.

Your child will have a permanent reminder of how important reading is to their future.
