Gifted & Talented FAQ

Yes! The PSD Gifted Program is embedded in every school in the district. Each school has a Gifted Site Coordinator, an on-site staff member who manages GT students’ Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) and acts as the hub for programming and parent/guardian communication. Because PSD is a site-based district, each school’s gifted program looks a little different. You can compare gifted offerings here by looking at Gifted Services by School. Students are identified as gifted in PSD through one of three pathways: grade 3-8 screening, the referral process, or transferring into PSD with a portable gifted identification from a previous school district. The screening and referral pathways are described in more detail here.

An Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) is a legal document for identified gifted and talented students that outlines their specific educational programming, goals, and services. The plan includes an achievement goal (focused on academics, independence, or post-secondary readiness) and an affective goal (focused on social and emotional growth). It is created in a partnership between the student, parents/guardians, teachers, and a gifted education specialist after the student has been identified through the process specified above.
