Long-Term Growth Plan

New schools and facility improvements will accommodate student growth

PSD voters approved a $375 million bond to build three new schools — a new middle/high school in Wellington, and an elementary and middle/high school east of I-25 — as well as an athletics complex, transportation maintenance facility, and an addition to Zach Elementary School. The bond will also fund $40 million of improvements to every existing school. The $8 million mill levy override will, among other things, pay for operating costs of the new buildings.

Voters approved a bond and mill levy override in November 2016 to fund the new construction. Multiple court cases delayed this work, but PSD ultimately prevailed in litigation in fall 2018.  PSD's Board of Education in September approved the issuance of bonds, clearing the way for construction.

New Construction

  • Additional Construction including:

    • Zach Elementary School addition - opening winter 2019

    • New Athletics Complex at the Prospect Site - opening fall 2021

    • New Transportation Maintenance Facility, North Terminal  - opening fall 2022

    • New Futures Lab - educational programming begins 2019 with classes in a temporary location; consideration of a permanent location in progress. PSD will seek multiple sources of funding for this program that may include a portion of the 2016 bond premium. All projects included in the original 2016 bond program will be fully funded.
