Financial assistance program for aspiring teachers and leaders in Poudre School District

Poudre School District has a long-term commitment to recruiting and retaining teaching, administrative, and support staff with the skills and abilities to work effectively with PSD's diverse student population.

How it Works

The Tuition Reimbursement Program provides financial assistance for aspiring licensed and classified employees who will positively contribute to the quality of education provided to the students in Poudre School District.  Current employees who work at PSD may be eligible to receive reimbursement money to complete college courses that will qualify them to receive a teaching license. Tuition reimbursement money will be designated for areas that are considered high needs or to receive a Special Education degree or endorsement. 

In return, employees receiving tuition assistance agree to continue their employment with PSD throughout their education (this may be reduced to part-time status and may require employment in a different position) and to remain employed with PSD for two years following the completion of their program, if suitable positions exist.

While the intent of the Tuition Reimbursement Program is to employ participants in licensed positions, employment may also be in a classified position.

The Process

Applications will be accepted for the following semester two times per year May 1 - June 1 and Nov 1 - Dec 1.  After a thorough review of the applications, a list of recommended candidates will be submitted to a designee in the Human Resources department for final approval. Funds for tuition reimbursement are limited; not all applicants will be accepted into the program. Those selected to participate must:

Agree to the terms and conditions for participation and sign the binding contract
Have approval of their immediate PSD supervisor and the site supervisor
Provide evidence that they have been selected into a licensure or endorsement program
Submit, and have approved, a plan for completion of their licensure process
Complete their student teaching in a PSD school or program unless specifically waived by Human Resource personnel

Participants will be notified that they will receive reimbursement by the 15th of the following month of the deadline.

Program Choices and Reimbursements

The tuition reimbursement money is to be used to reimburse employees out of pocket cost. Tuition reimbursement can be used for the following expenses:

  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Testing fees up to the specified limit for the program.

Programs Summary

Special Education Endorsement or Degree

This prorgam is designed to provide financial assistance for aspiring teachers and leaders who work effectively with Special Education students and who have demonstrated a commitment to PSD.

Qualifications: Applicants must be a current PSD employee working on a Special Education endorsement or degree.

Tuition Reimbursement Award: $3000 per year for a maximum of four years for a total reimbursement of $12,000

Teacher Licensure

This program's goal is to provide financial assistance to current classified PSD employees who wish to obtain teacher licensure.

Qualifications: Applicants must be classified employees of Poudre School District, who have completed one year of service. 

Tuition Reimbursement Award: $3000 per year for a maximum of four years for a total reimbursement of $12,000

Applications will be accepted for high needs areas within Poudre School District. High needs areas could vary year to year based on need. Currently, the areas of high need are:

  • Early Childhood Special Education
  • Math
  • Bilingual Education
  • A diverse workforce
