Statewide conversations about the future of education funding in Colorado are swirling around our community.
At the urging of our local teachers’ association, the Poudre Education Association (PEA), more than 50 percent of PSD teachers will be joining a statewide “Day of Action” on April 27 to lobby at the Capitol for more funding for K-12 education.
Given the excessive number of expected staff absences, we believe the safety of children will be compromised if we hold school on April 27 without appropriate adult supervision in the building.
As such, April 27 will now be a teacher and staff workday without students. Staff who are not at work must use paid leave time to participate in statewide activities, in accordance with our Employee Agreement.
Normal school operations will resume Monday, April 30.
We recognize this unexpected calendar change will present challenges for some of our families and regret the inconvenience to parents.
As a district that has been leading conversations in Colorado regarding the need for more K-12 education funding, we understand and respect our teachers’ passion for bringing awareness to this issue. However, we regret this action is taking place during the school day and impacting students.
