The first day of school is filled with wonder for students at all levels

Superintendent Sandra SmyserWelcome Back PSD Community!

I hope you had a relaxing and fun-filled summer with family and friends. August is an exciting time in our schools, when more than 30,000 students come back to school. Nearly 3,000 staff members will also return this month, joining our administrators and other employees who worked through the summer to prepare for the new school year.

The first day of school is one of my favorite days each year. I enjoy seeing the wonder on kindergarteners’ faces when they see their new classroom and what they consider a “huge” school for the first time. I also marvel at how transitioning sixth graders wander the halls of our middle schools, changing classes for the first time and how our high school students bustle around engaging in the hundreds of opportunities our schools provide from day one.

As I head into my sixth school year in PSD, I remain enthusiastically committed to the district’s four goals that seek to help students achieve their dreams. These goals are designed to support our schools in creating solid academic foundations, facilitating connections between students and adults, providing opportunities for students to explore their passions and ensuring students will be successful in our changing world.

As a community, we all play a part in preparing our students for life after graduation. I am grateful for the support of so many businesses, elected officials, parents and citizens in the PSD community as we work together to fulfill our mission to Educate Every Child, Every Day.

As you well know, whatever educational experience a family is looking for, PSD has a school or program that fits the bill and provides exciting student opportunities and experiences along the way.

I look forward to a great school year! All of us in PSD are committed to supporting our students so they can be successful today and in their future.

Sandra
