We recently asked soon-to-be Poudre School District high school graduates to reflect on who they are.
Their answers were nothing short of authentic and moving: “I am an … Inspiration. Driven. Leader. Comedian. Environmentalist. Wrestler. Achiever. Positive person. Student.”
They shared their core identities confidently, unwaveringly, and often with a smile, which makes me proud. I’m honored to hear how they see themselves at the end of their journeys in PSD.
As hard as it is to believe, the school year is almost done. Graduation season is upon us.
As each student walks across the stage and takes their diploma in hand, we in PSD celebrate with each graduate’s family and friends. Graduation is the occasion on which we say, “Welcome to adulthood. We are so glad you’re here. We know you are going to make a difference in this world.”
Especially during this point in the school year, I reflect on our District Ends – our aspirational goals for all of our students to graduate with “Foundations for Success,” to be prepared for “Success in a Changing World,” to go “Above and Beyond” and to have “Connections,” both academically and socially in their communities. I am inspired by how deeply staff have been giving of themselves to this group of kids over the past 13 years.
Each student took unique paths to graduation. They chose some of those paths, and others chose them. Up and down, through moments of clarity and uncertainty, they’ve done it. They’ve written their stories about life so far.
You can be part of those stories through PSD’s annual “Grads at a Glance” series, which premiered April 10. Leading up to graduation – the week of May 20 – you will have the privilege to learn about graduates from each of PSD’s high schools through videos, photos and written pieces.
Their stories inspire us to be the best educators, school staff members, parents, business partners, and community champions that we can be for them. Now, we want to honor the incredible class of 2019 by sharing their own words with you.
Get inspired by visiting the Grads at a Glance website and be sure to congratulate the grads in your life!
