School lunches are a vital lifeline for many students every day. That has perhaps never been more true than it is now.
Even though Colorado schools are not in session until at least April 17, PSD’s Child Nutrition team has been coming to work every day, preparing hundreds of free, nutritious bag lunches and breakfasts for kids and teens across PSD.
“Students experiencing food insecurity might not know where their next meal will come from,” PSD Child Nutrition Director Craig Schneider said. “We pride ourselves in serving the needs of the whole child.”
Each bag lunch includes an entrée, a whole fruit, and a dairy product.
How to get lunch
PSD families who need food for their student during the school closure have several options:
PSD is offering free meals to PSD students during the closure at three school locations, using a grab-and-go style system, weekdays through April 17. Meals can be picked up from noon to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the following schools:
- Linton Elementary School, 4100 Caribou Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80525
- Poudre High School, 201 S. Impala Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80521
- Eyestone Elementary School, 4000 Wilson Ave., Wellington, CO 80549
Each day, students (ages 0-18) can pick up a sack lunch that also includes food for breakfast the following morning.
While schools are closed in Larimer County, the Food Bank has established three initial meal sites that serve grab-and-go lunches:
- 11 to 11:30 a.m. at Laurel Elementary School, 1000 E. Locust Court, Fort Collins, CO 80524
- 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Beattie Elementary School, 3000 Meadowlark Ave., Fort Collins, CO 80526
- 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Bauder Elementary School, 2345 W. Prospect Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526
Motorists should follow posted signage at the distribution sites and drive up to the delivery points. Please don’t get out of your vehicle. There will also be a pick-up for students or families that walk to the schools.
How you can help - donate through SchoolPay
Help us spread the word that these free meals are available to students. We don’t want any child going hungry!
Ensuring kids have access to nutritious meals while PSD schools are closed is a priority. Since many in the community have asked how they can help, PSD has created a new way to donate via the online payment center, SchoolPay.
Please consider donating what you can to help PSD continue to provide healthy nutritious meals to students throughout the district. Transaction fees will be waived for donations. In addition, PSD families with SchoolPay accounts can transfer their current student account balance. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to donate your balance.
