Updated May 14
Poudre School District is excited to honor the accomplishments of the Class of 2020.
In lieu of the traditional May ceremonies, which have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PSD is currently planning other celebrations to recognize these outstanding seniors, who have reached this educational milestone. Please know that as we move forward with this process, we share in your disappointment about not having the ceremonies and celebrations you anticipated.
Our first choice is to host in-person ceremonies for graduates and their families later this summer, but that is dependent on the health crisis and its effects at that time.
As a result, we are simultaneously planning two options for graduation ceremonies, which will give us flexibility with an unknown future situation and help us ensure that our graduates receive their well-deserved recognition. The two options include in-person ceremonies and celebration videos.
First choice option: Graduation ceremonies in late July
In-person graduation ceremonies are tentatively planned for Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, at French Field, located at Rocky Mountain High School, 1300 W. Swallow Road, Fort Collins. In case of bad weather, July 31 and Aug. 1 are back-up celebration dates.
These dates were selected as the latest dates possible for the ceremonies since after this date, many graduates move on to enter college, the workforce or military.
If in-person ceremonies are possible, attendance will be limited to graduates only. Family members will not be permitted to attend, but will be able to watch a livestream of the ceremony on PSD’s YouTube channel. A recording of it will also be available for viewing later.
The difficult decision to not have an audience was made to ensure that at least six feet of distance is maintained among students and staff at all times. It would be challenging to abide by this health requirement with additional audience members.
Friday, July 24
- 9 a.m., Fort Collins High School
- 1 p.m., Poudre Community Academy
- 6:30 p.m., Polaris Expeditionary Learning School
Saturday, July 25
- 9 a.m., Rocky Mountain High School
- 1 p.m., Poudre High School
- 6:30 p.m., Fossil Ridge High School
Note: Centennial High School and Poudre School District Global Academy may determine other ways to recognize their graduates, depending on available resources for the size of their graduating class.
We hope to make a final decision about in-person graduations and announce plans by the end of June. State and local health recommendations will help guide the decision. If in-person ceremonies will be held, information about requirements for parking, entering and exiting the field, cloth masks, and other health and safety protocols will also be sent in late June.
Option 2: Celebration videos
While nothing can replace the celebration of live graduation ceremonies with families and friends, at this point we believe online video celebrations are the best alternative to salute graduating seniors.
PSD TV is currently working with high schools to produce online graduation video tributes for them that will honor and spotlight each graduate. If in-person ceremonies can’t be held, these graduation celebration videos will be released. If we go this route, we’ll let graduates and families know how they can access and watch the videos.
Questions? Please reach out to your school first
We will send updates about graduation celebrations as plans become more final. If you have questions about the graduation ceremonies, please reach out to your school first. You may also contact the district by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Congratulations to our graduating seniors on this great accomplishment. We thank you for your understanding and patience as we work on plans to celebrate this amazing milestone with you.
