July 21, 2020
Dear PSD staff and families,
My wish is that you and yours are healthy and that you’ve had some time to enjoy the summer.
Today, I’m writing as someone who shares concerns for loved ones, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. I know that everyone is trying their best to navigate new and unique challenges, and no one has all the answers.
Many of you are feeling frustrated, waiting for information about PSD’s fall opening plans. Unfortunately, we are living in a complicated time, and things keep changing – hour by hour, and day by day. This demands that we remain flexible in our planning and be aware that decisions made today may change tomorrow because of the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following is what you can expect:
- Monday, July 27: We will share PSD’s tentative opening schedule and 2020-21 comprehensive school year plan. We still may have to change our opening plans based on public health conditions in Larimer County closer to the start of the school year.
- Saturday, Aug. 8: This is the new, extended deadline to enroll in PSD Virtual (PSDV), our 100 percent remote education option, for the 2020-21 school year. For more information about PSDV, including answers to FAQs, visit the PSD Virtual website. Email PSDV related questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The core of your decision, as parents, lies in whether you want your child to learn remotely all year through PSD Virtual or whether you are comfortable with them being at school, when possible, knowing that we fully expect that PSD will transition back and forth between in-person and virtual education throughout the year, as health conditions dictate.
We know you’re trying to make a host of decisions that are best for your family. As you contemplate these, please know that education will look very different this school year. Face coverings will be mandatory for all staff and students to be in school (except for those who have a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask), and numerous new health and safety protocols will be in place.
Thank you, to everyone, for doing their part to help slow the spread of COVID-19. As we go forward, we need your continued support and partnership. When you do your part, you help us make a return to school possible and keep our communities safe and healthy.
We will continue to update our 2020-21 School Year web pages on the PSD website.
Watch for the most current projection of our opening plans this Monday, July 27.
