PSD shifting to hybrid learning for PreK-elementary

A video announcement from the superintendent:

Because of recent positive trends in data reported by the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment and improvements in COVID-19 test result turnaround times (as of mid-September), PSD is planning to move to hybrid education, which includes both in-person and remote learning.

Elementary grades will shift beginning in October according to this schedule:


For middle/high schools: PSD continues to target Oct. 19 to begin in-person learning for secondary students and will share more details the week of Sept. 28. As with elementary schools, the plan to return to in-person learning at the secondary level will be a phased in, hybrid approach.

Preschool students will return to in-person education Oct. 5. Early Childhood Education will communicate more information directly with their families.

  • HR has temporarily paused on classified hiring until staffing fluctuations are resolved. Contact Executive Director of Human Resources Vicki Thompson, at vthompson@psdschools.org, with questions. 

  • As a result of staffing fluctuations and being in remote education, HR and Payroll are working to verify extra-duty assignments. Extra-duty assignment payments will start later in the fall as soon as assignment verifications have been entered. 


Staff expectations  

  • Employees must complete the PSD employee symptom check (please login using PSD credentials) and get a green “pass” before entering a PSD school or facility.  
  • Staff are on duty at the start of their 2020-21 contract and must be available during regular work hours. 
  • Staff must be available for scheduled staff meetings and collaboration sessions in alignment with the Employee Agreement. 
  • Minimize in-person meetings whenever possible. In-person meetings must follow social distancing requirements, face coverings must be worn and a remote option must be provided. 
  • Indoor meetings with more than 50 people are prohibited, in accordance with LCDHE guidelines.

Returning to work during the COVID-19 pandemic 

If you have concerns about returning to work at a PSD school or building, you can find information, options and procedures on the PSD Human Resources web page.  

Symptom-tracking tool: Before entering a PSD school or building, staff must report their symptoms and receive a green “pass” beforehand. The electronic COVID-19 screening application can be used on any mobile device. If an employee is not able to complete their screening prior to reporting to work, they should contact their supervisor.

Employees can adjust their screening throughout the day. If an employee accidentally reports symptoms or contacts, they will see a red stop sign. On that same screen, in the bottom left corner, there is a back button that allows them to edit their screen. If an employee feels okay in the morning but then reports symptoms mid-day, they should update the screener.

JSSC Access

The JSSC is open 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.  Main exterior doors will be unlocked during business hours to allow for walk-ins.  However, guests to the JSSC will not be allowed to enter the building beyond the reception area unless they are accompanied by an employee.  Appointments are highly encouraged to make sure the employee needed to meet with is available.  Human Resources will continue to require employees and new hires to make an appointment by emailing hr@psdschools.org.
