Last year, a controversial late-game call stopped the Wellington Middle-High School football team from claiming the Colorado 2A championship. This year, the Eagles couldn’t be stopped! WMHS earned the state title with a dominant win over Elizabeth High School.
The Eagles took down the Cardinals 35-0 in Pueblo on Saturday, capping off an undefeated season. The impressive performance on the field included several shutouts against Colorado teams, nine games where the Eagles scored more than 30 points, and two games bringing in more than 60 points. Wellington is the first PSD team to win a state football championship in more than 50 years.
