Poudre School District is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment for all employees. In alignment with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), and the PUMP Act, the district provides reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access and opportunity in the workplace. PSD values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and actively works to remove barriers so that every employee can thrive and contribute fully to the district’s mission.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The ADA is a landmark civil rights law protecting people with disabilities in many areas of life. Poudre School District adheres to Title II regulations under the ADA, meaning we do not discriminate against those with disabilities in our hiring or employment practices. We strive to make employment, programs, services, and activities as accessible as possible and provide reasonable accommodations to those who qualify under the ADA.
If you have a health condition that impacts your ability to work or participate in programs and activities in PSD, follow the steps below to request an accommodation:
- Send a copy of the ADA Medical Documentation Request Form to your healthcare provider to fill out. Your provider can send the completed form directly to the Accessibility Office or return to you to submit.
- If you have multiple providers, select the provider who best understands your health condition and now it impacts your work. We recommend attaching a copy of your job description as well for your provider to reference as needed.
- Our contact information is on the form for your provider to reach out as needed.
- Once you have given your provider a copy of the ADA Medical Documentation Request form and your job description, please email the Accessibility Office at ADA@psdschools.org to provide further detail of your accommodation request and schedule a time to meet either in person or on Teams.
- Please know that your medical information will not be stored in your personnel file in Human Resources, and your information will remain confidential. There may be times when we need to contact you supervisor(s) for approval of an accommodation, but we will only provide information on a need-to-know basis.
- Our office will respond do your accommodation request as soon as possible. We'll set up a time to meet with you (and potentially your supervisor(s)) to discuss your request and answer any questions you may have.
- Once we receive the ADA Medical Documentation Request form from your healthcare provider, we will implement accommodations on a "trial" basis. This helps us determine what accommodations are appropriate, reasonable, and beneficial for you.
- After determining reasonable and beneficial accommodations, we will "close" the process with an Accommodation Confirmation Letter. This letter will remain on file in the Accessibility Office. We will also send a copy to you and your supervisor(s) to ensure the appropriate information is available and understood.
- Any accommodations agreed upon are not set in stone and can be updated if/when your health condition changes.
PUMP
In compliance with the PUMP Act, PSD is obligated to provide nursing employees with a private space (that is not a restroom) to express breast milk. This space must include a chair, a table or flat surface, and an electrical outlet. The Accessibility Office is working to outfit each site in PSD with the required items, including comfortable chairs, small tables to set equipment, privacy screens for multi-use spaces, and signage for each space. Click here for more information on employer responsibilities under the PUMP Act.
PWFA
In 2023, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) passed the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, providing important protections for employees who are pregnant, have recently given birth, or are impacted by medical conditions related to their pregnancy. PSD is obligated to provide reasonable accommodation to qualified employees.
If you are seeking accommodations for your position related to pregnancy, please complete the following steps:
- Complete the Accommodation Request form online.
- Have your healthcare provider complete the PWFA Accommodation Request Form and return it to the Accessibility Office at ADA@psdschools.org.
- If you have multiple providers, select the provider who best understands your health condition and now it impacts your work. We recommend attaching a copy of your job description as well for your provider to reference as needed.
- The Accessibility Office will reach out to schedule a time to meet and discuss your needs and next steps.
Reasonable accommodations include but are not limited to sitting/standing as needed, schedule modifications, accessible parking, leave time, and restructuring break times. Limitations of accommodations arise when there is undue hardship to the employer or work site. Click here for more information on your rights under the PWFA.
