Workers' Compensation

Workers’ Compensation provides employees with appropriate medical care and a portion of lost wages following a work-related injury, illness or disease. Coverage is provided by employers at no cost to employees.

In An Emergency

If you need immediate medical attention, go to the nearest hospital or Urgent Care facility. For life- or limb-threatening emergencies, call 911 immediately.

If You're Injured on the Job:

  1. Notify your supervisor immediately.
  2. Submit a report within 10 days of the accident or injury.
    • Bookmark this page for future reference. The "Submit a Report" link is dynamic and will not work if you bookmark the link itself.
    • View the step-by-step instructions for reporting if you have any issues completing the form.
  3. If you require medical treatment as a result of the work-related injury or illness, you must choose a provider designated by PSD from the list below.
  4. You may not submit an Employee's Report of a Work-Related Injury on behalf of another employee. Please contact Risk Management at tlong@psdschools.org with questions.

Your Rights and Responsibilities Under the Colorado Workers' Compensation Act

If you are injured on the job or sustain a work-related illness or disease, compensation and medical benefits are paid as provided by the Colorado Workers’ Compensation Act. Claims adjusters from the district’s third-party administrator, Cannon Cochran Management Services, Inc. (CCMSI), make the determination of whether or not you have sustained a compensatory injury or illness.

You must report your injury in writing as soon as is reasonable, or within 10 days of receiving medical care. PSD will submit the report, with details of your injury, illness or disease to CCMSI to establish your claim. You also have the right to file your own “Worker’s Claim for Compensation” directly with the Colorado Division of Workers’ Compensation.

You are entitled to reasonable and necessary medical, surgical and hospital treatment for your injuries or occupational disease. Employers must designate at least four occupational providers for an employee to choose from following a work-related injury. A list of these providers is located below under 'Designated Providers'. The treating physician will assess the injury and assign any appropriate work restrictions.

Compensation for lost wages resulting from an injury or occupational disease begins after three working days have been missed for claim related purposes. The minimum compensation rate if you are unable to work is 2/3 of your average weekly wage, not to exceed a maximum amount established by the Division of Workers’ Compensation. PSD provides employees up to 90 working days (or parts of days) of injury leave, paid according to your regular pay rate and work schedule.

Lead Testing in PSD

new Colorado law requires all licensed childcare programs and public schools serving preschool through eighth-grade students to test their drinking water for lead and take action when results show levels of lead at or above 5 parts per billion (ppb). The goal of this law is to lower children’s exposure to lead, a toxic metal that is harmful to young children.

PSD staff will take samples of water at all PSD elementary schools and send them to the state health department for testing by May 31, 2023. PSD is required to send samples from all middle schools by Nov. 30, 2024, meeting the requirements of Colorado House Bill 22-1358: Clean Water in Schools and Child Care Centers (signed into law in June 2022).

PSD is going above and beyond the law by having high schools and office buildings tested too. The district has also opted to test drinking water for copper, in addition to lead.
