PSD selects new director for Integrated Services Department 

Dr. Jodie Rommel brings 20 years of special education leadership experience with her as she takes on her new role as director of Poudre School District’s Integrated Services Department.  

alt""Dr. Rommel, who began work for PSD in June, comes from the University of Northern Colorado, School of Special Education, in Greeley where she was an assistant professor and special education director program coordinator. Prior to that, she was the exceptional student services coordinator in Thompson School District in Loveland. She also served as director of a special education program in South America for several years.  

In her new position, Dr. Rommel is looking forward to collaborating with PSD staff to build on student success. “I’m excited to support PSD schools in elevating student growth,” she said. 

Dr. Rommel began her career in special education as a teacher in 1997 after a two-year stint volunteering for the Peace Corps in Africa. Following teaching, she was an administrator for an American Indian school in Northern California, serving Miwok and Maidu Tribal members for 10 years (2003-13).  

Dr. Rommel said she became an educator to positively impact the lives of children who have been historically marginalized. 

 “I am most proud of the work I have led that has increased inclusive practices in schools,” she noted about her career to date.  

Executive Director of Integrated Services Dennis Rastatter said Dr. Rommel’s comprehensive experience will be valuable to their team as they work together serving students and families.  

"I am very excited to welcome Dr. Rommel to the Integrated Services leadership team. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help best serve our students with disabilities,” said Rastatter. “Her extensive knowledge around instructional practices for students with differentiated learning needs will allow her to provide evidence-based instructional support to our special education staff.” 

Dr. Rommel received her doctorate degree in educational leadership and human resources studies from Colorado State University, a master’s degree in special education from Regis University and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice (pre-law) from the University of South Florida.  

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family. As soccer fans, they like watching Premier League Football together (“Go Manchester United!”). She also enjoys cycling, yoga, reading and going to live music performances.

  • She has been a vegetarian for 34 years.  
  • She and her family have three dogs.
