Poudre School District is pleased to announce that Gwynne Johnson has been selected as the next principal of Preston Middle School beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. Johnson is eager to bring her decades of experience to Preston to foster a place of belonging for all students and staff.
For more than 20 years, Johnson has worked with students, families, and educators in roles including language arts teacher, program coordinator, and most recently as an assistant principal. She said the most rewarding part of education has been building meaningful relationships and helping young people discover their strengths, develop confidence, and reach their full potential.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities from the University of Colorado Boulder, her teaching license through the University of Northern Colorado, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. Johnson said these experiences, combined with two decades in education, have shaped her belief that every student deserves to feel known, valued, challenged, and supported.
As an educational leader, she is committed to creating a school culture where students feel a sense of belonging, staff feel empowered and appreciated, and families are valued partners in their children's education. She said she is excited about the opportunity to join the Preston Middle School community and work together to ensure that every student has an exceptional middle school experience.
Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and supporting the local art and comedy communities. She said these interests help her stay creative, connected, and grounded. She also strives to bring that same sense of curiosity, positivity, and community spirit to my work as an educator and leader.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Insoon Olson said, “We are excited to welcome Gwynne Johnson as the next principal of Preston Middle School. Gwynne is known for her student-centered approach to leadership and her belief that every student deserves to feel known, valued, challenged, and supported. She is passionate about building strong partnerships with families, empowering staff, and cultivating a culture of belonging where all members of the school community can thrive. Her experience, collaborative leadership style, and dedication to excellence make her exceptionally well-suited to lead Preston Middle School into its next chapter.”
Please join us in welcoming Johnson as she prepares to lead Preston into its next chapter.
