General Registration FAQ

The Poudre School District has amazing schools with phenomenal teachers, all ready to help your student along their education journey. And with so many great schools and fabulous options, there can be plenty of questions about where to start. Here are some answers to commonly asked questions as you consider your options and prepare to enroll your student in a PSD school. When does registration open for the upcoming school year?

Registration via the School Choice process will open for the 2026-27 school year on Nov. 3 for grades K through 12. In-person Kindergarten registration is scheduled for December 3.

How do I register my child for school in PSD?

You can register your child for school on the PSD website at the following link. You can also call the school you are planning to register your child at for registration help.

What documents do I need to provide to complete registration?

  • One of the following as verification of child’s birth date: birth certificate, passport, baptismal certificate, military ID. Original or certified copies acceptable. 
  • Proof of address (a copy of a lease agreement, mortgage statement, utility bill, etc., that shows that the parent/guardian lives at an address within school boundaries)
  • Immunization record or an immunization exemption form
  • Custody documents (if applicable)

How do I find out which school is my neighborhood school?

Use the Find My School page.

Is a choice-only school the same as a charter school?

  • No, choice-only schools are PSD public schools that do not have designated neighborhood boundaries, so they require a School of Choice application to attend. 
  • Charter schools are authorized by PSD or by the Charter Schools Institute and operate largely independently from the district.

What if I’m new to the district and need to register my student after the start of the school year?

Registration for neighborhood school is open year-round. Reach out to your neighborhood school and school and provide the information required to register your student.

Can I register my child to go to a PSD school if I live outside of PSD boundaries?

Yes. Complete the PSD School of Choice process to apply to attend a PSD school.

Is there a deadline for registration, or can I enroll my child at any time?

You are encouraged to enroll your student prior to the first day of school. However,students can enroll and start school at their neighborhood school at any time during the school year. To enroll your child at a school that is not their neighborhood school, you must go through the School of Choice process, which does have deadlines. The first-round deadline for submitting School of Choice applications for the 2026-2027 school year is 4:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2025.

Are translation and interpretation services available for non-English-speaking families?

Yes, family liaisons are available at all schools to help with translation services, and communications that come from the district are sent out in English, Spanish, and Arabic.

How does PSD support families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity?

PSD supports families experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The federal law passed in 1987 that provides federal funding for homeless shelter programs and ensures educational access for students experiencing homelessness.
