Teachers share excitement about the school year

It's always important to stop and celebrate, and one of the causes for celebration this year was having all teacher positions in Poudre School District filled for the start of school. We welcomed 113 new teachers this year, which is significant because school districts across the state and nation are struggling with teacher shortages.

Whether teachers are new to the district, to their school or in a new classroom, here is what a few had to say about their first day and what they’re looking forward to in the school year ahead.

  • How was your first day of school as a new teacher?
My first day as a new to the district teacher was so warm and welcoming. We had a wonderful first day building relationships in our classroom.
  • What are you the most excited about for this school year?
I am the most excited to see the growth of our students this year academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Why did you become a teacher?
I became a teacher to help students reach their full potential and become well rounded, kind people.

  • How was your first day of school as a new teacher?
This year was my 13th first day of school as a teacher and it was one of my best! At Timnath Elementary School, there is an energy buzzing about that made it clear right away that our teachers, admin, and staff have a deep love for their work and an even deeper care for our students. I look forward to seeing this energy grow as I continue to settle in at the school!
  • What are you the most excited about for this school year?
I am most excited about a fresh classroom filled with fresh ideas. My room is huge, so I can't wait to hear how my students will fill it with joyful music!
  • Why did you become a teacher?
While it's definitely in my blood with a long line of educators in my family, I discovered early on that watching students succeed and receive praise for their hard work in the classroom is a joy that's hard to match. When students receive a well-deserved round of applause and standing ovation, I cannot help but feel an indescribable joy.
  • Anything else you'd like to add?
Since my first day of orientation, I keep noticing more and more what makes PSD and Timnath Elementary so special. I hope that our staff, community stakeholders, and school families never take for granted how blessed we are to have such a supportive school system. More and more, every day, Poudre School District proves to me just how lucky I am to be a teacher here and I cannot wait to see how my teaching, and ultimately, how my students' successes will take flight here!

  • How was your first day of school as a new teacher?
I am not new to teaching but my first day at TMHS was great. From the beginning the school administration has been super helpful and the other teachers have also pitched in many times to help with technology platforms, processes and insights into the school culture.
  • What are you the most excited about for this school year?
I'm excited to build relationships with students, to learn of their interests and to connect the class content in a meaningful way. TMHS has an amazing culture and I'm excited to be a part of it.
  • Why did you become a teacher?
I've been in education for a long time, I've spent time teaching and I've spent an equal amount of time learning. I left the classroom and spent time pursing degrees in higher education and time in the work force, but teaching is my passion and I'm always drawn back to it. I'm already thoroughly enjoying incorporating my newfound knowledge, insight and experience into the classroom.
  • Anything else you'd like to add?
I've had time with students interested in FBLA and I'm impressed with their desire to support a business club mission that includes community service to our school, processes to support their clubmates competition efforts, and their desire to promote the great business hustle of their peers. I see really amazing things for the future of TMHS FBLA.
