Brian Kingsley became superintendent of Poudre School District in July 2021 and brings almost three decades of experience in public education to one of Colorado’s top-performing school districts. He was selected following a national search that included extensive community input and public finalist interviews. Kingsley believes deeply in the transformative power of public education and its ability to shape both individual lives and strong, connected communities. As superintendent, Kingsley works closely with the Board of Education, district leadership, and community partners to advance Poudre School District’s strategic priorities. Under his leadership, the district developed and implemented a comprehensive strategic plan grounded in literacy, mental health and belonging, school safety, and ensuring students graduate with meaningful options for their futures. During his tenure, Poudre School District reached the highest graduation rate in its history, while students consistently outperformed state and national peers on academic assessments. The district has also made sustained gains in early literacy, expanded college, career and technical education pathways, and strengthened systems that support student belonging and postsecondary readiness. Prior to joining Poudre School District, Kingsley served as chief academic officer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, one of the largest public school districts in the nation. Throughout his career, he has held roles as a classroom teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and district-level leader in large, diverse school systems. His work has consistently focused on improving instructional quality, expanding opportunity, and addressing racial and economic achievement gaps, particularly for historically underserved students. Kingsley is an alumnus of the Chiefs for Change Future Chiefs program and currently serves as a board member of the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASSA). He earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. His professional recognitions include Florida’s Middle School Principal of the Year and Broward County’s Principal of the Year. Kingsley values collaborative leadership and remains committed to working alongside students, families, staff, and the broader community to ensure strong outcomes for all learners.
