Poudre School District is subject to both state and federal laws and regulations regarding public education.
PSD offers a variety of student programs that are required under federal law including the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) which is the most recent version of the Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA).
ESEA is the primary federal law affecting K-12 education. The main goal of ESEA is to help all students in the state to reach proficiency in English language arts/reading and mathematics and is built on four pillars:
- Expanded local control and flexibility
- Doing what works based on scientific research
- Accountability for results
- More options for parents
The majority of federal programs target specific populations of students including those from low income families, homeless students and students with special needs that do not qualify for services under Special Education.
