Poudre School District students bring in 25 state-level Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Students across the district are constantly expressing themselves through breathtaking artwork and soul-touching pieces of writing, some of which were recognized at the state level this year.

PSD students earned 25 state-level 2026 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards through the Colorado Art Awards this year, across individual achievements and portfolios. These include: 

Four 2025 PSD graduates win National Merit Scholarships

Even though school isn’t in session, the hard work of Poudre School District students continues to be recognized. 

Four 2025 graduates were named winners of National Merit Scholarships this year, as announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation from April through July. These students were selected among tens of thousands of others nationwide.

Mighty Math Minds Tournament celebrates achievement and teamwork 

More than 20 elementary schools gathered at Olander Elementary School for the 2025 Poudre School District Mighty Math Minds Tournament, a Math Olympiad competition hosted by the PSD Gifted and Talented district office. Now in its 10th year, the tournament challenges students in individual and team rounds, celebrating problem-solving, collaboration and mathematical thinking.

Battle of the Books brings page-turning excitement to PSD 

Earlier this month, the auditorium at Rocky Mountain High School was buzzing, not with applause for a concert or cheers for a sports game, but with excitement for books.   

Students, staff and families from across Poudre School District gathered to celebrate the 19th annual district-wide Battle of the Books competition, a fast-paced and fun event that makes reading exciting for third through fifth-grade students.   

PSD Support for American Indian and Alaska Native Education Program

Poudre School District is applying for the Title VI Formula Grant for the first time. If awarded, funding would support the 2025-26 school year.

The program addresses the unique cultural, language, and education-related academic needs of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) students, including preschool children. More information can be found in these informational slides. >>

 

Middle school students have few hang-ups over phone-free policy

Last year, Jack Taylor’s classmates at Preston Middle School used to stand in a circle between classes, heads down, and text each other. This year, with cell phones tucked away from the first bell until dismissal, more conversations are happening face-to-face. 

“I feel like kids are more interactive in class and raise their hands more. Last year, they would just stare at their phones,” Taylor said.
