2017-18 Full-Day Kindergarten Tuition
Frequently Asked Questions

How much is tuition for the full‐day kindergarten program in 2017‐18? The full‐day kindergarten tuition cost for the 2017‐18 school year is $2,750 per student.

Is there a deposit due at the time of registration? In previous years, a deposit was required. There is not a deposit required for the 2017‐18 school year. There are no payments due at the time of registration.

Is financial assistance available to help offset some of the kindergarten tuition costs? There are a limited number of full‐day kindergarten scholarships available at each school.

Are scholarship awards based on income? Only students who are approved for the free and reduced‐priced meal program for the 2017‐18 school year, by August 4 are eligible to receive kindergarten scholarships. However, because there are only a limited number of scholarships available at each school, not all students who are eligible for free and reduced‐priced meals will receive a scholarship. See questions 7 and 9 for details on the scholarship award process.

How much are scholarship awards? Scholarships are awarded for the full tuition amount of $2,750.

If my child participated in the Early Childhood program at Poudre School District, does he/she automatically receive a full‐day kindergarten scholarship? Participation in the PSD Early Childhood program does not automatically provide a student with a full‐day kindergarten scholarship. Students who participated in the Early Childhood program must follow the same process as all other students.

How do I apply for a scholarship? Eligibility to receive a scholarship consists of two parts -both are necessary to qualify for one of the limited number of full‐day kindergarten scholarship slots:

1) The student must be approved to participate in the free and reduced‐priced meal program for the 2017‐18 school year by August 4

 2) The parent/guardian must allow for the disclosure of the student’s eligibility for free and reduced‐priced meals to the Finance Department to be utilized to provide a full‐day kindergarten scholarship.

Full‐Day Kindergarten Scholarship Request Forms are available to be completed at the time of kindergarten registration (February 9). All request forms received during the registration process are forwarded to the Finance Department by the school. Request forms must be received by the Finance Department by the close of business (4:30 pm) on February 10 to be placed in a lottery drawing held on February 13.

Scholarships are offered based on the number of available slots at the student’s neighborhood school. Families who do not receive a scholarship slot will be advised of their place on the ordered list generated by the lottery and placed on a waiting list if a scholarship slot becomes available later.

Families who completed a Full‐Day Kindergarten Scholarship Request Form will receive notification via email from the Finance Department once the application for Free and Reduced‐Priced Meals becomes available in July 2017 to complete the eligibility verification process. For the purposes of eligibility for a full‐day kindergarten scholarship, the free and reduced‐priced meal program application must be approved by August 4.

In addition, the parent/guardian must provide written permission for the Child Nutrition Department to share their child’s eligibility status with the Finance Department for the purpose of providing a full‐day kindergarten scholarship. This permission is provided as part of the Full‐Day Kindergarten Scholarship Request Form.

If I register my child for full‐day kindergarten after February 10, can I still apply for a scholarship? Students registering for full‐day kindergarten after February 10 can still submit a Full‐Day Kindergarten Scholarship Request Form. There will be an additional lottery, held on August 5, for late registrants. The results will be added to the bottom of the ordered list generated from the first lottery.

When will I know if my child receives a scholarship? The scholarship lottery will be conducted by the Finance Department on February 13. Families will be notified, via email by the Finance Department, of the lottery results for students attending their neighborhood school on February 14. The Finance Department will provide each of the schools with the lottery results. Families will be contacted by their neighborhood school with additional information.

The Federal Government’s free and reduced‐priced meal application is not available until mid‐July. Final scholarship offers will be made by the Finance Department on August 8.

If my child does not receive a scholarship slot based on the lottery, is there opportunity to be placed on a waiting list in the event a scholarship becomes available? Students who do not receive a scholarship slot through the lottery will be placed on a waiting list. Scholarships initially offered could become available either because an awarded family 1) withdraws from scholarship consideration or 2) does not receive approval to participate in the 2017‐18 free and reduced‐priced meal program by August 4.

If my child receives a scholarship slot and is eligible for reduced priced meals, does that mean that my child gets a reduced scholarship? Students who receive a scholarship slot through the lottery and receive approval to participate in the free and reduced‐ priced meal program by August 4 will receive a scholarship for the full amount of kindergarten tuition regardless of the child’s status as either free or reduced.

If my child receives a scholarship from his/her neighborhood school but ends up attending a different PSD school, because my family moved, does the scholarship transfer to the other school? If the new school your child will be attending is now his/her neighborhood school, the scholarship stays with your child.  If your child attends a school other than his/her neighborhood school through the school choice process, the scholarship does not transfer to the choice school.

If my child receives a scholarship from his/her neighborhood school but I decide to have my child attend a different school, through the school of choice process, before school begins, does the scholarship transfer to the other school? Scholarships do not follow the student when the student attends a school other than his/her neighborhood school. Scholarship‐slot priority is given to students attending their neighborhood school. If any slots are available after all qualifying neighborhood students are served, they will be made available to school of choice students based on the school of choice order of priority. The Finance Department can be contacted to see if there are any scholarship slots remaining at the choice school.

Who should I contact if I have additional scholarship questions? Questions regarding the scholarship process for full‐day kindergarten should be directed to the Finance Department at 970‐490‐3649.

When will I be billed for tuition? Families will receive an invoice accompanied by a letter describing the tuition amount and payment options from the Finance Department. Families registering by the end of the 2016‐17 school year should receive this information the first part of August 2017 with the first payment due August 31. Families registering during the 2017‐18 school year should receive this information shortly after registration.

How does Poudre School District determine which parent/guardian will be billed for full‐day kindergarten tuition? Billing information is obtained from data entered on the Student Enrollment Form at the time of registration. The Parent/Guardian who is marked as Financially Responsible on the Student Enrollment Form will receive the full‐day kindergarten tuition invoice. If the Financially Responsible box is not marked for any Parent/Guardian, the first Parent/Guardian listed on the enrollment form will receive the Kindergarten tuition invoice.

What if someone other than a parent/guardian will be making tuition payments? If someone other than the parent/guardian listed on the Student Enrollment Form as the Financially Responsible Parent/Guardian needs to be billed, please contact the Finance Department at ar@psdschools.org to obtain the required Kindergarten Billing Information Update Form.

When is kindergarten tuition due? Payments may be made, in part or in full, at any time after you receive the tuition invoice in the fall of the 2017‐18 school year. A monthly installment payment option is available. The entire tuition balance is due on or before May 31, 2018.

Am I charged for my child’s tuition by the month? No. The annual tuition amount is determined each year based on the estimated cost of providing the full‐day kindergarten program for the entire school year. Although you are provided an option to pay in installments, the tuition amount does not vary monthly based on the number of days that school is in session in a particular month.

Can I pay some, or all, of my child’s tuition at the time of registration? Tuition for the 2017‐18 is not due and payable until the 2017‐18 school year. The District cannot accept tuition for the 2017‐18 school until August 2017.

What happens if I don’t pay my tuition? You have until May 31, 2018 to pay the tuition in full. Overdue balances will be forwarded to a third‐party collection agency. This could result in additional fees and potentially adversely affect your credit report.

How do I make my tuition payments? Tuition payments are only accepted by the Finance Department at 2407 LaPorte Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80521. Schools are not authorized to accept tuition payments.

The current payment options are as follows:

Installment payments may be deducted directly from your bank account each month. This preferred method is the most convenient and cost‐effective method of making payments. A Tuition Automatic Transfer Authorization form will be included with your tuition invoice. Simply complete the form and submit in person or mail along with your August 2017 payment to the Poudre School District Finance Department at 2407 LaPorte Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80521‐2297 by August 31.

Payments by check (no cash) may be mailed to the Poudre School District Finance Department, 2407 LaPorte Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80521‐2297. To ensure the payment is applied to your account, please reference your customer K‐number on your check.

Can I turn in the ACH form to my child’s school? No, please submit the ACH form to the Finance Department at 2407 LaPorte Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80521.

What if my child leaves the program early? Will I get a refund? Tuition will be prorated based on the student’s last day of attendance. A final tuition invoice or refund check will be mailed. Email the Finance Department at ar@psdschools.org with your name, the student’s name and student ID number, school, and last day of attendance.

What if my child starts the full‐day kindergarten program after the first day of the school year? How will the District determine how much to bill me? Tuition will be prorated based on the student’s first day of attendance. The school will notify the Finance Department upon enrollment and a tuition invoice will be mailed to you.

Do I pay for the days when the District has an unplanned day off from school during the year (for example, snow days)? Yes.The tuition amount is determined each year based on costs to operate the full‐day kindergarten program. These costs do not change if the school has an unplanned day off; therefore, the tuition amount is not reduced.

Who should I contact if I have additional questions? Please do not contact your child’s school about kindergarten‐tuition billing. Contact the Finance Department at ar@psdschools.org if you have any additional questions. The email should include your name, the student’s name and student ID number, school, and the phone number at which you can be reached. A Finance Department representative will contact you within 24 hours.
