Students learn skills to engage in lifelong healthy eating. 

 

Elementary Learning Goals

Prek-kindergarten:

  • Identify the major food groups and benefits of eating a variety of foods

First-third grades: 

  • Demonstrate the ability to make and communicate appropriate food choices
  • Identify eating and drinking behaviors that contribute to maintaining good health
  • Understand that eating a variety of foods from the different food groups is vital for good health

Fourth-fifth grades:

  • Demonstrate the ability to make good decisions about healthy eating behaviors
  • Demonstrate the ability to set a goal in order to enhance personal nutrition
  • Understand the connection between food intake and physical health


 

Middle and High School Learning Goals

Middle school: Sixth-eighth grades:

  • Evaluate the validity and reliability of information, products, and services to enhance healthy eating behaviors
  • Demonstrate the ability to make healthy food choices in a variety of settings

High school: Ninth-12th grades:

  • Understand the impact of healthy and unhealthy diets on daily living
  • Analyze how family, peers, media, culture, and technology influence healthy eating choices
  • Demonstrate ways to take personal responsibility for healthy eating
