Poudre School District students and staff participated in the 36th annual Colorado State University C.A.N.S. Around the Oval food and fund drive from Sept. 19 to Oct. 19,2022. C.A.N.S. stands for cash and nutritious staples, and every donation benefits the Food Bank for Larimer County.

Nine schools participated in the food drive this year, including Beattie, Johnson, Kruse, Lopez, Riffenburgh and Werner elementary schools; Kinard and Preston middle schools and Rocky Mountain High School.

The point-based C.A.N.S. friendly competition allowed teams to register and compete against one another and in various group categories. The point system awarded five points per pound of food donated during the event, 10 points per dollar donated and 25 points for each team member who attended a “CANversation” discussion about food security. These points help determine the top contributors.

Overall, C.A.N.S. Around the Oval raised $60,727 and 17,854 pounds of food this year. Organizers are currently tabulating the competition results, including the top 10 “CANtributors” overall and top “CANtributors” for participating local schools. Once finalized, the Rams Against Hunger Team will post the results on the CSU C.A.N.S. Around the Oval web page.
