Wellington Middle-High School opening fall 2022

In its first year of operation during the 2022-23 school year, Wellington Middle-High will serve all middle school grades and some high school grades (likely 9th and 10th grades), with an additional high school grade being added each school year after opening. The school will most likely serve grades 6 through 12 by 2024-2025.

WMHS is one of three new PSD school construction projects funded by the 2016 Bond. Project details about the new WMHS school are available here.

This web page will be updated soon with a summary about WMHS' philosophy, academics and activities.

History of the former Wellington Middle School

Wellington Middle School, 4001 Wilson Ave. in Wellington, opened in 1964, after serving as Wellington High School. It served students and the community until the new Wellington Middle-High School opened in fall 2022.

The Wellington Middle School community set measurable goals, taught fundamental and advanced skills, supported interdisciplinary learning, and encouraged individual student growth. The academic program included Pre-Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered in 7th and 8th grades and school-wide AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), which helped prepare students for success in high school and beyond.

Extracurricular activities included a music program, competitive and intramural athletics, Eagles After Hours, Preparing for Academic Student Success (PASS), United Kids of WMS, W.E.B. (Where Everyone Belongs), AVID program, and Eagle Power student government. Wellington is proud to be a National/Colorado “School to Watch”, a National Green Ribbon School and an International AVID Demonstration School.
